John McLaughlin, 70, of St. Louis, Mo., died Feb. 2, 2006. John was born Dec. 1, 1935, to John and Alice McLaughlin and attended Winterset High School. He graduated from West Des Moines Dowling in 1954 and continued his education at Notre Dame where he received a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering. His career took him into a civilian job with the United States Army helicopter program in St. Louis. John was asked to head up a project to build an attack helicopter for potential Middle East conflicts. The aircraft, the Kiowa Warrior, has served in all the Gulf missions, including Iraq. For his dedication, John received the Civilian Meritorious Service Award.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha, of St. Louis, Mo.; one son, John McLaughlin of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Maureen McLaughlin Linhares of St. Louis, Mo., and Sandra McLaughlin Endejan of Michigan; two brothers, Richard McLaughlin of Des Moines and Michael McLaughlin of Omaha, Neb.; and four sisters, Helen McLaughlin Morehouse of Lincoln, Neb., Jane McLaughlin Weist of Denver, Colo., Celine McLaughlin Waring of Omaha, Neb., and Patricia Corkrean of Winterset.
