Funeral services for Mildred Frances Madison of Winterset were held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 6, at Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Nagel of Shenandoah officiating. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Prescott, Iowa. Mrs. Madison died Saturday, August 4, at Villa West Care Center at the age of 74.
Born on January 9, 1905 at Agency, Iowa, she was the daughter of Floyd Leslie and Nellie Cowger Neff and was raised by her stepmother, Emmaline Caroline Judson Neff. On May 23, 1925 in Waterloo, she was married to Russell Charles Madison, who preceded her in death. She lived in Winterset 40 years and was a cook at Madison County Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1964.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son, Russell Charles Madison, Jr. Surviving are three sons, Bob of Springfield, Oregon, Dick of Winterset, and Wes of Eugene, Oregon; three brothers, Harold Neff of Des Plaines, Ill., Glen Neff of Waterloo and Ray Neff of San Diego, California; two sisters, Pearl Bailey and Agnes Finders, both of Waterloo; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
