Mrs. Alice Locke, well known resident of Winterset for many years, died here last Thursday, May 8, after a long illness. She was 74 years of age.

A victim of arthritis, Mrs. Locke had been an invalid for the last 19 years.

Mrs. Locke was the former Emily Alice Fosher, daughter of Samuel and Fannie Hills Fosher. She was born in Madison county Aug. 23, 1872.

She was married to John M. Locke in 1893. They were the parents of six children. Her husband, and an infant son, Robert, preceded her in death.

All of Mrs. Locke's life was spent in this community. For 16 years she served as a clerk in dry goods stores here, making a wide acquaintance. She was affiliated with the Rebekah lodge here.

As a child she had united with the Christian church, but in recent years had become a member of the United Presbyterian church here.

Surviving are her five children: Mrs. Eva Nelson of Chicago, Mrs. Doris Davis of Des Moines, and Mrs. Blanche Adams and Harry and Verne Locke, all of Winterset. She also leaves three brothers, William Fosher of Des Moines, and John and Hubert Fosher of Winterset; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. W. P. Gordon, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, and the Rev. L. F. Davis of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
