Morris Elmer Howell, son of Arthur E. and Minnie M. Howell, was born June 4, 1905, at Patterson, Iowa, and passed away Dec. 3, 1941 following an operation at the University hospital in Iowa City.
He grew to manhood in the Patterson community, attending the Patterson school, and was a member of the Methodist church there.
The past six years he had lived in Truro, being employed by F. H. Riggle and W. D. Kale and Sons.
His father died in 1934. He leaves to mourn his death, his mother, three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Mont Seams of Truro, Mrs. Dale Gray of Winterset, and Mrs. George Durand of Patterson, and Carroll Howell of St. Charles. Also ten nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Patterson Methodist church last Friday and burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery.

Brain Operation Proves Fatal Wednesday At Iowa City
Maurice (sic) E. Howell, 36-year-old resident of Madison county, died Wednesday morning in the University hospital at Iowa City, following a brain operation Monday afternoon.
Mr. Howell, who had been in poor health during the past year, was born in Madison county near Patterson in June, 1905. The son of Arthur Howell, he received his education in the Patterson Consolidated school.
Howell, unmarried, had worked in Truro the past several years with the Kale funeral home and also had been employed with a windmill company.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Arthur Howell, Winterset; three sisters, Mrs. George Durand, Prole; Mrs. Ethel Simms, Truro; Mrs. Dale Gray, Winterset; one brother, Carroll Howell, St. Charles. His father and one brother, Wilbur, preceded him in death.
Complete funeral arrangements had not been made as the News went to press Wednesday, but would be held possibly on Friday.
