MRS. MARY ANN BERTHOLF Dies

Mrs. Mary Ann Bertholf, one of the oldest residents of the county, died at the home of her son E. E. Bertholf in Lincoln township on January 25th, 1935, after a brief illness. She was 88 years old.

The former Mary Ann DeMar was born in Prince George county, Maryland, on March 20, 1846. She was the daughter of William R. and Martha Bivin DeMar. She came to Davis county, Iowa, as a child, later moving to Madison county.

At the age of 17 she married Alexander Bertholf. The remainder of her life was spent on the farm where she died.

Mrs. Bertholf was the mother of five children, Electa, Elizabeth, Linda, James, and Ellis. She also reared the two children of her husband by a former marriage. Later she also reared a grandson, Halden Bertholf.

Mrs. Betholf was a member of the New Hope church at the time of its organization.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Hicks, of Ottawa, Kansas, and one son, E. E. Bertholf, in addition to 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, four sisters, and two brothers. Her husband died in 1902.

Funeral services were held January 27th at the Ord church conducted by the Rev. A. R. Weed. Burial was made in the Clark cemetery.
