Graveside services for Doris Hildred Stirts, 89, Marshalltown, who died Sept. 17, 1988 at the Iowa Veterans Home where she resided, were held Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the Peru Cemetery with the Rev. John Shaull officiating.
Born in Madison County on March 4, 1899, she was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Jane Ray Hoover. On Dec. 23, 1920, she married George William Stirts in Des Moines.
A homemaker, she lived arund the Peru area between 1962 and 1984 and had lived at Camp Dodge from 1926 to 1962. She was a member of various church groups, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Camp Dodge Bridge Club.
Survivors include her husband, of Marshalltown; a son, Hugh Stirts of Ft. Garland, Colo.; daughters, Betty (Mrs. Dale) Leonard of Hemitt, Colo., and Sarah "Sally" Spears of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight sisters.
