Velma McKeever, Winterset

Velma Stephenson McKeever, 73, of Winterset, died June 28, 2004, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Peru United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Shepherd of Truro officiating. Visitation will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Truro from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Peru Cemetery.

Velma McKeever was born Oct. 16, 1930 to Lyle and Goldie Ellen (Travis) Seward of Peru. She attended Peru School. In 1946 she was united in marriage to John Stephenson. She later married William Frederick McKeever in 1951. She had lived in Winterset since 1982. Velma was self-employed as an upholsterer for 35 years. She was a member of the Peru United Methodist Church and Peru Women's Social Circle. She also was a member of the Matura Action Board and a volunteer at the Winterset Senior Citizen Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband William and one son, Ron McKeever.

She is survived by one son, Gene Stephenson of Winterset; two daughters, Lorna Stephenson of Des Moines and Rosalie Noland of Winterset; three brothers, Glen Seward of Denver, Colo., Loren Seward of Suison City, Calif., and Harold Seward of Winterset; a sister, Janice Halterman of Indianola; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
