Was Carpenter in Winterset, Seved on Police Force Seven Years
James H. Hockenberry, veteran Winterset carpenter, died at his home here Sunday after a long illness. He was 78 years old.
Mr. Hockenberry was born in Adair county on March 8, 1864, the son of McElva and Annie Marie Hockenberry. His early life was spent on the farm. For the past 40 years he had lived in Winterset, following the carpenter's trade. He also served for seven years on the Winterset police force.
He became a member of the Methodist church in 1928.
He is survived by his wife; a brother, Frank Hockenberry of Doniphan, Neb.; and two sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Oakland of Great Falls, Mont., and Mrs. Sadie Spear of Oaks, Ore.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, and burial was made in the Wight cemetery.

Was Former Night Watchman And Carpenter. Services Held Tuesday.
James H. Hockenberry, 78, night watchman in Winterset 7 years, died Sunday night at his home here following a cerebral hemorrhage which he suffered that morning.
Jim, as he was familiarly known, spent his early life on the farm and had, during the last few years, spent in Winterset, was active in the carpenter trade in Madison county. He served several terms as night watchman in Winterset, totaling a period of seven years.
James H. Hockenberry was the son of McElva and Annie Marie Hockenberry and was born March 8, 1864, and died at the age of 78 years and 27 days. He was married to Lillie J. Elsbury December 30, 1903. He was one of a family of four girls and three boys, three of whom survived. He united with the Methodist church in 1928.
He is survived by his wife and one brother, Frank, of Doniphan, Nebraska; two sisters, Rebecca Oakland of Great Falls, Montana, and Sadie Spear of Oaks, Oregon.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the Ramsey–Richards Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was made in Wight cemetery.
