Former Local Resident Was Active in Community Affairs
Mrs. Maude Whedon Smith, who for many years was one of Winterset's most prominent and active women, died last Saturday at her home in Iowa City.
Mrs. Smith was a member of a family long prominent in the affairs of this community. She was a granddaughter of Col. C. B. Lothrop, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Whedon.
She was married here to W. F. Smith, who survives her. They were the parents of one son, Lothrop Smith, who is now a professor of chemistry at the State University of Iowa.
In addition to her husband and son, she leaves one grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. Nels Bertholf of California, and Mrs. Oscar Olson, temporarily of Paducah, Ken.
