Farmer Commits Suicide at Home Northeast of Winterset
Frank Groth, widely-known Union township farmer, committed suicide by hanging at his home northeast of Winterset last Thursday.
Mr. Groth was 61 years of age. He has lived in Madison county more than 40 years. He was born near Cumming on Feb. 28, 1882, a son of Harder and Caroline Groth. Following his mother's death in 1901, the family moved to Madison county and settled on the farm where he had lived since that time.
On March 24, 1909, he was married to Louise Frech. They were the parents of five children, two of whom preceded the father in death.
He had been a member of the Methodist church since young manhood.
He is survived by his wife; three children, Everett Groth of near Winterset, and Lloyd and Louise Groth at home; a sister, Mrs. Anna Anderson of Winterset; and one grandson.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. W. A. Samp. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
