Wednesday, May 7, 1941M. L. SILLIMAN DIED ON MONDAY, AGED 79
Long-Time Citizen of This Community Succumbs in Des Moines
Milligan Lincoln Silliman, well known Winterset and Madison county resident, died Monday evening, May 5th, in Des Moines, after an extended illness. "Link" Silliman as he was familiarly known here, was 79 years of age, and had lived in this county all of his life.
Mr. Silliman was a son of J. R. and Nancy Dixon Silliman and was born in Scott township, Sept. 26, 1861. His parents had moved here from Pennsylvania, shortly before his birth. There were ten children in the family, all of whom have preceded him in death, except one sister, Appauline.
He was married to Miss Mary L. Waechter, in 1894, and they became the parents of four children: Mrs. Doris Brock and James H. Silliman of Winterset, Miss Marguerite Silliman of Chicago and Eugene Silliman of Appleton, Wis. Mrs. Silliman died Aug. 28, 1917.
Mr. and Mrs. Silliman moved to Winterset in 1895, one year after their marriage. He served as sheriff of Madison county four years, and was in the implement business a number of years. In later years he was associated with the McCall Land and Loan company.
In his early life Mr. Silliman was trained in a United Presbyterian home, and he later transferred his membership to the First Presbyterian church. He was a member of the Masonic lodge for many years.
Mr. Silliman is survived by his sister, four children and nine grandchildren.
The Rev. L. F. Davis conducted his funeral services at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7th, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
