JOHN BURCH DIED MONDAY, AGED 85

Former Madison County Farmer Lived in Des Moines 12 Years

John Burch, long a prominent farmer in Madison county, died Monday at his home in Des Moines, where he had lived for the past 12 years. He was 85 years of age.

Death was caused by a heart attack, which followed a long period of failing health.

Mr. Burch was widely known throughout Madison county where he spent most of his life, operating farms near Penn Center, and in Lincoln and Webster townships.

He was a native of Indiana, but came to Madison county as a young man, more than 50 years ago.

He was a member of the Methodist church and the Masonic lodge.

He is survived by five children: Mrs. Myrtle Bertholf of Los Angeles; C. J. Burch of Davenport; Harry Burch of Winterset; R. C. Burch of Davenport; and Mrs. Marie Davis of Patterson. His wife and two children preceded him in death. He also leaves ten grandchildren and a number of brothers and sisters, and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset, in charge of the Rev. L. F. Davis of this city. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

MORTUARY

John Burch, son of Charles and Sarah Anthony Burch, was born in Springfield, Indiana, on Nov. 21, 1835 and died at his home in Des Moines, May 12, 1941, at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 21 days. He had been in ill health for an extended period and death was caused by a heart attack.

Mr. Burch is survived by his five children: Mrs. Myrtle Bertholf of Los Angeles, Cal.; C. J. Burch and R. C. Burch of Davenport, Harry E. Burch of Winterset; and Mrs. Marie Davis of Patterson. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews. His wife and two of their children have preceded him in death.

Mr. Burch was well known in Madison county, having spent most of his lifetime operating farms near Penn Center, Lincoln and Webster townships.

Funeral services were held May 15 at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, by the Rev. L. F. Davis, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
