May 1962MINNIE CAREY
Minnie Susannah Cook, daughter of Harmon and Lucinda Mills Cook, was born on March 3, 1871, in Dallas County, Iowa, and passed away at Parkview Rest Home in Earlham, Iowa, on May 15, 1962
In 1892 she was united in marriage with Alva Carey at Bangor, Iowa. To this union were born two daughters, Lorene (Mrs. John Wright), and Velma (Mrs. Axel Naig).
The Careys moved to a farm in Dallas County, Iowa, near the town of Earlham in 1895. Here they lived until Alva retired from active farming, at which time they moved into their beautiful new home in Earlham. Because of failing health they gave up this home in 1935 and moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, to be near their daughter.
Minnie was a birthright Friend, but as they lived near the Hickory Grove United Brethren Church, the family affiliated with it and attended there for over twenty years. Upon moving to Earlham they again united with Friends. Here she retained her membership up to the time of her death. She served her Meeting faithfully in various capacities, and took a vital interest in the activities of the Church and Sunday School. Until fading health no longer permitted, she was always found in her place in these services. She was especially interested in the missionary work of the church, giving of her time and means to this cause.
She was a tender, loving, devoted wife and mother, “looking well to the ways of her household.” After the death of her daughter, Lorene, she helped in the care and training of the three small grandsons, bestowing on them also her mother love.
Near the close of the day on May 15, she slipped quietly away to be forever with her Lord.
She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Mrs. Axel Naig, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and four grandsons – Wendell C. Wright of Ladd, Illinois, John Otis Wright of Fullerton, California, Donald Eugene Wright of Des Moines, Iowa and Carroll Coulter of Woodland, California. There are also one granddaughter, Vera Gearhart of Lauel (Laurel), Iowa, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, besides many other relatives and friends.
