Winterset Woman Had Lived in County Three Quarters Of Century
Mrs. Carrie M. McDonald of Winterset, a resident of Madison county for nearly three quarters of a century, died this Tuesday, Jan. 4, at a Winterset nursing home. She was 87 years of age.
Mrs. McDonald was the widow of the late Fletcher McDonald, whose death occurred in 1953.
She was the former Carrie Violith, daughter of Leondis and Harriett Lonnecker Violith, and was born March 16, 1898 in Dallas county. She came to Madison county when she was 13 years of age.
She was married to Fletcher McDonald on Jan. 26, 1898.
Mrs. McDonald was a member of the United Presbyterian church.
Surviving are six children, Mrs. Gladys Nelson of Benson, Minn., Mrs. Blanche Hart of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Pearl Veed of Milwaukee, Wisc., Clarence McDonald of Winterset, Mrs. Alberta Binns of Earlham and Mrs. Edna Creger of Des Moines. She also leaves 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a brother, Dewey Violith of Harlem, Mont.; a half sister, Verdie Hansen of Minneapolis, Minn., and a step-sister, Hattie Scott of Rockford, Ill.
Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. from the First United Presbyterian church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John E. Fink. Burial will be made in the North McDonald cemetery.
