Clara Anna Schoonover, the daughter of Arthur and Carrie Wahlert Schwenneker was born September 10, 1886 in Exira, Iowa. She passed away January 17, 1981 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines where she had been a patient for several days because of complications from the flu.

Clara spent her early years on a farm with her parents.

On February 23, 1910 she was united in marriage to George Schoonover. Five children blessed their marriage. Most of their married life was spent farming. During these years many nice friends were made that were enjoyed throughout their life.

In February of 1956 George and Clara retired from farming and moved to Dexter where they spent the rest of their years. George passed away in 1965.

Clara was an active member of the Oddfellow and Rebekah Lodge, the Eastern Star and helped organize the original Navy Mother's Club in Dexter. She was also a member of the Dexter Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Ray of San Francisco, California, and Harold of San Diego, California; one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Ford of Dexter; 10 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Eva Worm of San Diego and Mrs. Helen Floyd of Leadville, Arkansas, and one brother, Carl Schwenneker of Marble Rock, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, husband and two sons, Merle and Erwin.

Clara was always a very active person until the last few years of her life when failing health confined her to her home most of the time.

Services were conducted at the Dexter United Methodist Church on January 19, 1981. Rev. Robert G. Farr officiated the services.

Music was provided by Robert Lawson, organist. Honorary casket bearers were Joe Easley and Terry Stodgil. Casket bearers were Ray Ford, Chris Illingsworth, Chris Lowden, Roger Schoonover, Curtis Wayman and Dale Wayman.

Interment was in the Dexter Cemetery. Professional services by McKee Funeral Homes of Earlham and Dexter.
