Thursday, September 20, 1984OBITUARY OF JAMES ROBERT BROWN
James Robert Brown, a former Earlham resident and son of James F. and Sandy Brown, was born August 9, 1927 in Iowa City, Iowa and passed away on September 8, 1984. A resident of Houston, Texas since 1963, he has been professor of statistics in the College of Business at University of Houston, University Park, for the past 21 years. Earlier he was employed by the Bureau of Business research at the University of Alabama, where he earned his Ph. D. degree.
He served in the United States Army. He was secretary of the Houston Area Chapter of the American Statistical Association, a member of the American Institute for Decision Sciences, the Confederate Air force and the First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Godfrey Brown; his daughters, Nancy Louise Brown of Houston, and Mrs. Sarah Brown Check of London, England; his stepson, Robert D. Campbell of Oakland, California; and his sisters, Mrs. Nancy B. Ringstrom of Iowa city and Mrs. Jane Weideman of Des Moines, Iowa.
Memorial services were held in the A.D. Bruce Religion Center chapel at the University of Houston on Tuesday, September 11, 1984 at 4:00 p.m. Remembrances may be sent to the Earlham Public Library Fund.
