HAROLD LAVERNE BROWN

Harold Laverne Brown was born to Ada Powell and Bradley B. Brown in Madison County, Iowa on February 15, 1904. While he was still quite young the family lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Shortly after their return to Iowa, Harold held his first job, driving a teem of horses pulling the wagon while his father picked corn.

He attended school at Earlham. Harold was baptized into the Christian faith and believed that Jesus Christ was his Savior.

He was married to Vivian Groves and to this union were born Roy, Darvin, and Junior (died in infancy). This marriage was later dissolved.

On September 2, 1939 Harold and Zelda Lucille Wheeler were married and to this union were born Mary, Deloris, Edith Jane (died in infancy), Douglas, and Danny.

Except when he worked on the Alcan Highway in the early 40’s he was employed by Marquette Cement for 42 years retiring in 1969. Since his retirement he has taken great pleasure in raising garden and doing home improvements.

On March 20, 1977 in Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, Harold left this life at the age of 73 years, 1 month, and 5 days.

Besides his parents and two infant children, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Wilbur. Survivors include his wife Lucille, four sons, Roy E. of Indianola, Iowa, Darvin W. of Davenport, Iowa, Douglas L and Danny L. of Dexter, Iowa, two daughters, Marylouise Brown of Dexter, Iowa and Mrs. Allen (Deloris) Houseman of Alpine, Oregon, one sister Velma Emmert of Fonda, Iowa, 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
