Funeral Rites and Burial Held at Macksburg Tuesday
Macksburg--(Special)--Walter L. Smith, of this community, was killed last Friday at Parsons, Kan., where he had been working on the construction of a new government ordinance plant. He was fatally injured when struck by a falling pole. Rushed to a hospital there, he lived but a short time.
Mr. Smith was 52 years of age. He was born in Madison county on Aug. 15, 1899, the son of H. A. and Lydia Barton Smith. He received his professional training in an automobile and electrical school at Lincoln, Neb. For the past 20 years, he had been employed in that type of work.
On Dec. 20, 1911, he was married to Florence Mae Pinckney. They were the parents of one son, Howard Lee Smith.
In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by three grandchildren; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Carrie Farlin of Cour d'Arlene, Ida., Frank Smith of Hanley, Lonnie Smith of Murray, and Wilbur, Ellis, and Earl Smith all of Lorimor.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Macksburg Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. C. E. Courtney of Winterset, assisted by the Revs. Paul Crouse of Macksburg and Reed Kessler of Pitzer. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.

Crushed To Death While At Work At Ordnance Plant In Kansas
Walter Lee Smith, 52 years of age, of Macksburg, who has been employed as an electrical worker at the Ordnance plant in Parsons, Kansas, since February 15, was fatally injured their Friday afternoon.
Smith, had been working on the ground painting pipes, when a heavy electric light pole, loosened by the rain, toppled in a strong wind and fell across his body.
His body was brought to the Watts funeral home in Lorimor and later taken to Macksburg where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
Smith is survived by his wife and one son.
