Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth Scrivner, 87, of St. Charles died Tuesday, December 26, 1978, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 29 at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro with Rev. Larry Wheatcraft of St. Charles officiating. Burial was in the St. Charles Cemetery.
Born on June 21, 1891, at Warren, Arkansas, Mrs. Scrivner was the daughter of Scott Winfield and Nettie Brown Lehman. She attended college at Shenandoah for two years and was a teacher in the Patterson schools. On September 11, 1911, she married Robert Scrivner and they were the parents of 14 children. She attended the Methodist Church in St. Charles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two sons; two sisters; two brothers, two granddaughters; and a grandson.
Mrs. Scrivner is survived by seven sons, Ivan, Grant, Guy, Charles, Gene and Paul, all of St. Charles and Joe of Baxer; three daughters, May Ewart of Des Moines, Mary Peak of Knoxville and Lois Burt of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Clarence Lehman of Waterloo; a half sister, Blanche Townsend of Waterloo; 29 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
