R. A. SRIVNER Died Wednesday

Robert A. Scrivner, a prominent citizen of the St. Charles community and a life-long resident of Madison county, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1969, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 82 years of age.

Mr. Scrivner was a son of Thomas and Martha Martin Scrivner, and was born in Madison county Dec. 14, 1886. He graduated from St. Charles High school and attended Drake university in Des Moines. As a young man he taught school, but later engaged in farming.

He was married Sept. 17, 1911, to Mattie Lehman. They were parents of 14 children.

He was an active member of the St. Charles United Methodist church, in which he served as a Sunday school teacher.

He was preceded in death by four children, Mildred, Robert Jr., and Phillip, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Ruth Smith.

Surviving are his wife; 10 children, Ivan, Grant, Guy and Paul Scrivner, all of St. Charles, Charles Scrivner of Springfield, Ill., Gene Scrivner of Norwalk, Joe Scrivner of Baxter, Mrs. May Ewart of Des Moines, Mrs. Mary Peak of Knoxville and Mrs. Lois Burt of Cedar Rapids. He also leaves 31 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Albert Scrivner of St. Charles.

Funeral services were held Friday from the St. Charles United Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. James Louk. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
