Earlham, IowaMRS. HAROLD JOBST
The first child and only daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Mason Calley, was born on July 11, 1921, at Guthrie Center, Iowa. She was given the name, Norma Jean. In her infancy she was baptized into the Christian faith in the Methodist church, at Guthrie Center. Her primary schooling she received in the Guthrie Center grade and high school. Following her graduation from high school, she enrolled as a student at the American Institute of Business, in Des Moines, from which institution she received a diploma of graduation in the year 1940. She found employment in the city of Des Moines.
On March 4, 1944, she was united in marriage with Harold Jobst, at the time serving in the armed forces of our country. The young couple established their first home at the husband’s army base at Bakersfield, California. Here she became a member of the Lutheran church by the rite of confirmation. Upon the husband’s release from army service, the couple returned to their native state, establishing their residence in Earlham.
The last four years of her life, she lived on a farm on the southeast edge of the town of Dexter. Her age was 32 years, three months, and 18 days.
The deceased was the mother of four children; Wilma Lynn, Bonnie Lee, Peggy Ann, and Dwayne Dean, an infant, all of whom will sadly miss their loving mother. In addition to these children, the bereaved mourners include her husband, Harold, her parents: Mr. And Mrs. Mason Calley, of Guthrie Center, a brother, Rex Calley, also of Guthrie Center, her parents-in-law, Mrs. And Mrs. Bert Jobst, of Dexter, and many other relatives and friends.
The entire congregation and community has been deeply stirred by her unexpected death. Norma Jean was a very pleasing personality, a loving wife and mother, a loyal, trustworthy friend, held in high regard and beloved by all who knew her. She was a devout, consecrated, active communicant member of Zion Lutheran church and of two societies of this congregation: the Ladies’ Aid, and the Junior Fellowship Club. She also held membership in the Dexter Ladies Auxiliary.
The funeral service was held on Sunday afternoon, November 1, with Rev. A. C. Weber, local Lutheran pastor in charge. A ladies quartet, consisting of Mrs. Paul Clausen, Mrs. Eugene Martens, Mrs. Howard Benz, and Phyllis Weber sang appropriate funeral hymns. Zelda Clausen was the organist. Robert Marsh, Paul Willrich, Alvin Scar, Eugent (Eugene) Martens, Carl Jobst, and Dale Clausen, served as casket bearers.
The body was laid to rest in the Dexter cemetery. Roy Evans was the funeral director.
