ORIE L. JONES, SR.

Orie Lewis Jones, Sr., was born June 5, 1902 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the son of Elmer E. and Lillian Inman Jones, and died on January 22, 1979 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines. He was 76 years, 7 months and 17 days of age at the time of his death.

He lived most of his adult life in rural Dallas County as a farmer. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at the Adel United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 24 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mervin R. Nelson in charge. Burial was at the Panther Creek cemetery, Adel.

He is survived by his wife Leona Ruth Stary Jones and four children, Orie L. Jr. of Earlham, Betty R. Irving of Dallas Center, Norma J. Hougham of Dallas Center and Robert L. of West Des Moines. Also by a brother Edward S. Jones, of Earlham and two sisters, Effie England of Bend, Oregon and Verda J. Pauls of Chillicothe, Missouri. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin H. Jones, his parents and one grandson, Matthew L. Jones.
