ELMER S. JONES

Elmer Siegel Jones, youngest of the eight children of Francis and Barbara Siegel Jones, was born in Madison county, near Dexter, Iowa on January 26, 1886. His sudden homegoing occurred on the evening of August 10, 1965, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 15 days.

Reared in the rural areas of Madison and Adair counties, his choice of vocation was that of farming which he greatly loved.

On March 11, 1908 he was married to Florence Antram of Stuart, Iowa. To this union were born two children, Wayne Carl and Edna Belle. Their home was broken when the wife and mother passed away in the autumn of 1918.

On March 15, 1921 he was united in marriage with Stella Beals of the Bear Creek community, and they became the parents of three sons, Kenneth ray, Claire Eugene and Howard Elmer.

Tender, sympathetic, and generous in spirit, Elmer Jones was always deeply concerned for and eager to meet the needs of family and friends. He was a tower of strength and support to them thorugh (through) the years.

A man of Christian conviction and personal faith in Jesus Christ, he was a faithful and loyal member of the Bear Creek Friends church.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Stella, and his five children, Wayne C. of Burt, Iowa; Edna, now Mrs. Willard Lamb of Redfield, Iowa; Rev. Kenneth R. of Mount Gilead, Ohio; Claire E. and Howard E., both of Earlham. There is one surviving brother, Eugene, of Hartford, South Dakota; one sister, Mrs. Vinnie Mapes, of Earlham; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Through the pain and grief of parting, our hearts are given courage and comfort in the hope expressed in Elmer’s favorite hymn:

“I shall know Him, I shall know Him,
And redeemed by His side I shall stand,
I shall know Him, I shall know Him
By the print of the nails in His hand.”

Note: Burial in Bear Creek Cemetery, Dallas Co., Iowa
