PIONEER RESIDENT OF TRURO IS DEAD

John W. Minard Had Lived in That Community Since 1871

John W. Minard, for over 70 years a resident of the Truro community, died at his home there Saturday at the age of 86 years.

Mr. Minard was born in Minnesota on Oct. 31, 1856, eldest son of Rowland and Catherine Minard. When he was a boy his parents moved to Indiana, and in 1871 they came to Iowa, settling near where the town of Truro now stands.

He was married Feb. 6, 1884, to Lucy Stone Anderson. They soon settled on a farm northeast of Truro, where they lived 38 years. They moved into Truro in 1922. Mrs. Minard died 11 years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Minard were the parents of two sons and one daughter, all of whom survive. They are Ralph and Clyde Minard, and Mrs. Lois Husted, all of Truro. Mr. Minard also leaves a sister, Mrs. Alice Schultz of DeSoto; two brothers, Clark Minard of Truro and Cliff Minard of Davenport; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the Kale funeral home in Truro Monday afternoon, in charge of the Rev. W. W. Watson, pastor of the Truro Methodist church. Burial was made in the New Virginia cemetery.
