ORMAN E. OSBORN

Orman E. Osborn was born on June 3, 1875, in Rockville, Indiana, 82 years ago. His parents were Jennings and Maggie Osborn, both now deceased. He came to Iowa with his parents when he was five or six years of age.

On August 22, 1906, he married Agnes Richter, at Smith Center, Kansas, where they established their first home. Orman’s work as a builder led him to travel about rather extensively. They had residences in several states, including Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, and California. Some fifteen years were spent at Ocean Beach, California, near San Diego. During and after the first World War they lived for three or four years in Earlham, and returned there to the old rock house in 1935. He continued to make this his home until his death on December 19, 1957. His wife, Agnes, preceded him in death on February 13, 1956, less than two years ago.

Orman loved his home community of Earlham, where many structures of brick, stone and mortar, built by his skillful hands, stand as monuments to his life and work. He loved nature. He found great pleasure in flowers, and the birds and squirrels will surely miss his friendly thoughtfulness for them. He also liked people, and his whole-hearted friendliness and services rendered will remain in our memories for many a day.

He had no children. He leaves to mourn his passing only cousins and relatives by marriage, and his many, many friends. His cousins include Effie Libby of Earlham, Madge Wolfrom of Los Angeles, California, Maryanna Libby of West Des Moines, Leota Brehm of California, and Ernest Osborn of Knoxville.

Orman loved the Earlham Friends church of which he was a member, and through it he found many ways to be of service to his Lord.

The funeral service was held in the local Friends church on Friday, December 13, at 2 p.m. with the pastor, L. Willard Reynolds, in charge. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
