Lived in Winterset Since Coming From Indiana As Young Man
William Oliver Cord was born in Putnam county, Indiana on Sept. 26, 1857, and departed this life on Nov. 8, 1942, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 12 days.
When a young man he came to Madison county and settled near Winterset. On Dec. 7, 1879 he was united in marriage to Alice Ann Howard of Winterset. To this union was born ten children, the wife and five children preceeding him in death.
He leaves to mourn his parting, four sons, Walter, John and Harry of Winterset and Ralph of Chicago; and one daughter, Mrs. Mae Isemenger of Los Angeles, Calif; a sister, Mrs. Dan Hood of Los Angeles, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The Rev. L. F. Davis conducted the funeral services for Mr. Cord, at the Anderson home for funerals this afternoon at 2 p.m. and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Was Pioneer Resident Of Madison County. Five Children Survive.
William O. Cord, pioneer resident of Madison county, died in the Winterset hospital November 8 at the age of 85 years, one month and 12 days.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Anderson’s funeral home with the Rev. L. F. Davis in charge. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
William Oliver Cord was born in Putnam county, Indiana September 27, 1857. When a young man he pioneered to Madison county and made his home in Winterset. On December 7, 1879 he was united in marriage to Alice Ann Howard of Winterset and they were the parents of ten children. He was preceded in death byu his wife and five children.
He was well known in this community having been a butcher in his entire age. He worked in a butcher shop where the Bare store is now located. He served as volunteer fireman in the Winterset fire department for 55 years, being one of the firemen who served with the hose cart group.
He was also a charter member of the Woodman lodge, now having only three members left in this community.
He is survived by four sons, Walter, John and Harry of Winterset, Ralph of Chicago, Illinois, and one daughter, Mrs. Mae Iseminger of Los Angeles, California, one sister, Mrs. Dan Hoos of Los Angeles, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren as well as a host of friends.
