MAUDE OHRT

Maude Ohrt, the eldest child of Elmer and Mary Dowlin Payton, was born August 31, 1884 near Bedford, Iowa. She passed away at the Guthrie County hospital on November 1, 1980.

At an early age Maude moved with her family to the Stuart community. She attended school in Stuart and late attended Drake University for one year. As a young woman, Maude taught school in Swaledale, Anita and Dexter.

On June 12, 1912 she was united in marriage to Pete Ohrt in Dexter. Their marriage was blessed by the birth of three children. The family farmed in Penn Township until Maude and Pete retired to Dexter in 1959. Pete passed away in 1966. In later years Maude moved to the Dexter community apartments. For the past four years she lived at the Stuart Care Center.

Maude was a member of the Dexter Methodist Church, Fealty Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, and D. T. Club and the Golden Age Club.

Survivors include her loving children Mrs. Betty Lee of rural Dexter and Paul of Stuart; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, two sisters, one infant son and one infant granddaughter.

Services were held at the Dexter United Methodist church with Rev. Robert G. Farr officiating. Casket bearers were Ronnie Algreen, Allen Atherton, Jim Clausen, Keith Piatt, Warren Piatt, and Dean Stiles. Interment was in Dexter cemetery with arrangements by the McKee Funeral Home.
