Sarah Nunamacker

Funeral services were held for Sarah Nunamacker at Perry Monday and burial in the Earlham cemetery.

Her family were early residents of Earlham. Two of her uncles, John and Brad Douglas, were in the coal business here for many years.

Miss Nunamacker taught in the sixth grade in the Earlham School about the turn of the century. She also taught in several other places in the state. When she retired from teaching school she lived in Earlham and sold insurance.

She was always a booster for Earlham and was greatly interested in the advancement of education. She took active part when the Earlham School was consolidated and the junior college was established.

She was a charter member of the Earlham Chautauqua Club and a member of the Church of Christ. She also wrote a brief history of Earlham. A copy is in the library.

In 1935 she moved to Perry to make her home with her sister, Mrs. Minnie Emms. She was 94 at the time of her death. She was 94 at the time of her death.

Pall bearers were Earl Schalkle, John Moreland, Fred Fry, John Henkle, Forrest Hibbs and W. A. Jackson.

Among those from Earlham who attended the burial services at the Earlham cemetery besides the pall bearers were Mrs. John Henkle, Mrs. Earl Schalkle, Mrs. Stanley Williamson, Mrs. Hazen DeVault, Miss Elizabeth Maxwell, Miss Amy Hadley, Miss Martha Hadley and Albin Olson.

Note: ‘She was 94 at the time of her death’ was a repeat in the newspaper obituary.
