ARTHUR R. STRONG, Winterset

Funeral services were held Sat., Sept. 12, for Arthur R. Strong, 97, at Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Leonard Leslie officiating. Mr. Strong died on September 9, 1992, at Winterset Care Center North. Military Graveside services were conducted by the American Legion and the V.F.W. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

He was born in DeKalb, Mo. on December 2, 1894, to Stephen Washington and Mary Belle (Bishop) Strong. He married Hattie Alice Rhodes on June 30, 1920, in Winterset. He lived in Winterset most of his life and was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and the First Christian Church. Mr. Strong was a carpenter, a mason, and a building inspector in Winterset. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW I.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, five brothers; five sisters; and two grandsons.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Jack and Stephen Strong, both of Omaha, Neb.; four daughters, Mary Jane Strong and Betty Macumber, both of Winterset; Bonnie Beattie of Nixa, Mo.; Ethelee Dixon of Philmont, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
