NORTHA G. STRAWN, St. Charles

Northa Glee Strawn, 79, of St. Charles died of cancer Sept. 3, 1998, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 7, at St. Charles Parish Church with the Rev. Ed Poston officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Northa Strawn was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Warren County to Ray and Bessie (Johnston) Johnson. She was a graduate of St. Marys Community School District. On March 4, 1939, she married John H. Strawn in Indianola. They farmed in the St. Charles community. Northa, a homemaker, was a member of the St. Charles United Methodist Church (St. Charles Parish), Model Chapter 174 Order of the Eastern Star and Piece and Happiness Quilting Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband; five sons, Charles (wife Audrey) and Dennis (wife Marilyn) both of St. Charles, Dean Strawn (wife Jane) of Oskaloosa, Russell (wife Joyce) of Cedar Rapids and Phillip (wife Carmen) of Medford, Ore.; one daughter, Alice Slye (husband Garald) of St. Charles; one sister, Sallie Strawn (husband Wayne) of St. Charles; two sisters-in-law, Lucille McKinney and Catherine Scrivner (husband Gene) both of Indianola; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Home of Truro.
