HAZEL STRAIN , Winterset

Hazel Strain, 93, of Winterset, died of a heart ailment Nov. 2, 1996 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Pastor John Gaul will officiate the services and burial will be at the Resthaven Cemetery in Des Moines.

She was born in Creston on June 23, 1903 to Julian Albert and Mary G. (Gossmeyer) Peterson. She married Roy Curtis Strain on April 30, 1921 at Polk County. She was a homemaker and helped her husband with the farming. She had been a resident of Madison County since 1958. She was a member of the Sunshine Garden Club and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. She also competed in Madison Cunty horticulture displays.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; one sister; and one grandson.

Surviving relatives include three sons, Ray Strain of Overland Park, Kan., Russ Strain of Clipper Mills, Calif., and Dale Strain of Hamilton, Mont.; one daughter, Darlene Lewallen of Gresham, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
