Donald Hugh Lightner, 74, died June 22, 2003, at the Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 25) at the First Christian Church in Creston with Dr. Byron Lamun officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery with military rites performed by Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post 1797.
Donald Lightner was born Aug. 17, 1928, to Hugh E. and Goldie V. (Algoe) Lightner of Peru. He was a 1946 graduate of Winterset High School. On Dec. 4, 1949, he married Barbara Cameron in Winterset. Donald had farmed for most of his life. Later he was employed by Producer's Livestock of Omaha for 17 years. A resident of Creston since 1960, he was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston and Lions Club. He also was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1946 to 1949.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Creston; his mother, Goldie Lightner of Winterset; three daughters, Diane Sheil of Des Moines, Debbie Gage of Algona and Danette Lesan of Creston; and six grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the National Parkinson's Association or the First Christian Church in Creston.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Powers Funeral Home in Creston.
