Services for Herschel Swanson, 78, of Rural Winterset were held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4, at the First United Presbyterian Church with graveside services at 2 p.m. at the South Marion Cemetery at Stratford with Rev. Alan Parker officiating. Mr. Swanson died Monday, January 1, 1979, at the Care Center North in Winterset.
Mr. Swanson, who was born August 3, 1900 at Stratford was the son of Oscar Frederick and Emma Paulson Swanson. He was married in 1925 and is survived by one daughter, by this marriage. On June 25, 1944 Mr. Swanson was married to Loretta Berneal Sawyers at Davenport, and they had one son
Mr. Swanson, who moved here from Des Moines 15 years ago, was an examiner for the county and state for 50 years. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his son, Oscar Herschel Swanson of Ankeny; his daughter, Delores Plunk of Warrensburg, Mo.; two brothers, Furman of Oklahoma and Clifford of Valentine, Neb.; four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
