Bonnie Leonard, Greenfield

Bonnie Jean Leonard, 74, of Greenfield, died Sept. 5, 2004 at Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at Word of Life Family Church in rural Winterset with Pastor Tracy Edwards officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery.

Bonnie Leonard was born Oct. 30, 1929 in Knoxville to Chauncey Clinton and Opal Esther (Mitchell) Brees. She grew up in the Des Moines area, graduating from East High School. On Jan. 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to John Delbert Leonard. During her lifetime, she resided in Des Moines, Norwalk, Winterset and Greenfield. Throughout her career, Bonnie had been employed by Farm Bureau Insurance, Greyhound Lines, Madison County Memorial Hospital and Bankers Life (Principal) retiring June 5, 1995.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Beverly Ann Brees.

She is survived by her husband, John of Greenfield; four sons, Steven Leonard of Macksburg, John Leonard of Pensacola, Fla., Ron Leonard of Madrid and Tim Leonard of Osceola; her mother, Opal Brees of Des Moines; two sisters, Betty Hamilton of Des Moines and Sandra Thompson of Winterset; a brother, Dick Brees of LeHigh; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Steen Funeral Home of Greenfield.
