Murriel I. Lents, Greenfield

Murriel Ireene Lents, 88, died Sept. 12, 2000 at Greenfield Manor in Greenfield.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Peru United Methodist Church with Pastor Dennis Shepherd officiating. Burial was at Peru cemetery.

Murriel Lents was born Aug. 23, 1912 to Creston and Anna (Reed) Parker of Bridgewater. A 1929 graduate of Bridgewater High School, she attended the University of Iowa and Drake University. On Nov. 28, 1936, she married John William Lents. Following their marriage, they resided in rural Bridgewater, then moved to Greenfield. In 1959, they moved to Peru. At an early age, Murriel was active in the Crown Rebekah Lodge and played piano for "silent movies" a business her father ran. She was the organist for the Peru United Methodist Church for 35 years and had been the mayor of Peru.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister and two grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Carole Followwill (husband David) of Independence, Mo.; four sons, Bill Lents (wife Jackie) of East Peoria, Ill., Tom Lents (wife Polly) of Crystal Lake, Ill., Larry Lents (wife Judy) of Dexter and Roger Lents (wife Shirley) of Frisco, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Peru United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
