EARNEST STRABLE Services Held

Funeral services were held May 18 from the St. Paul Lutheran church in Martensdale for Earnest E. Strable of St. Charles, whose death occurred May 15, 1965 at his home in Warren County.

Mr. Strable was 72 years of age at his death. He was born in Madison county Dec. 26, 1892, a son of Frank and Sarah Slayden Strable. He lived in Madison county until 1918 then moved to the Strable farm where his death occurred.

He was married in 1913 to Elta Mae Stalter. They were parents of seven children, and observed their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1963.

He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran church in Martensdale in 1938.

Surviving are his wife; the seven children, Mrs. Albert Henson of St. Marys, Charles Strable of Wick, Dean Strable of Murray, Mrs. Max Whitlow of Truro, Clifford Strable of Indianola, and Raymond and Rex Strable of Denver, Colo. He also leaves 25 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Roth of St. Charles and Mrs. Herbert Stroud of Martensdale; and three brothers, Vernon Strable of Des Moines, Raymond Strable of St. Charles, and Carl Strable of Prole.

Earnest Edward Strable, son of Frank and Sarah Slayden Strable, was born Dec. 26, 1892, in Madison County. He died May 15, 1965, at his home at the age of 72 years, 4 months, and 18 days.

He attended the Clanton Valley School in Warren County.

Nov. 5, 1913, he was united in marriage to Etta Mae Stalter at the Methodist parsonage at St. Charles, and to this union seven children were born: Mrs. Albert (Ruth) Henson, St. Marys; Charles Strable, Wick; Dean Strable, Murray; Mrs. Max (Helen) Whitlow, Truro; Clifford Strable, Indianola; Raymond and Rex Strable, Denver, Colo. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 5, 1963.

They lived on farms in Madison County three years and then moved to his Grandfather Strable’s farm in 1918 where he resided at the time of his death.

In 1938 he was baptized and confirmed in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Martensdale and attended when weather and health permitted.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two sisters, Edna in infancy and Alice, and one brother, Guy.

Besides his wife and children, he is survived by two sons-in-law and five daughters-in-law; 25 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Evalina) Roth of St. Charles, Mrs. Herbert (Bertha) Stroud of Martensdale; three brothers, Vernon of Des Moines, Raymond of St. Charles, Carl of Prole; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Martin Behrens May 18, 1965, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Martensdale. Interment was in the Blair Chapel Cemetery.
