Howard Leist Funeral Friday

Howard E. Leist of 202 S. Second St. died Wednesday, January 30 at the Adair County Hospital in Greenfield at the age of 53. Mr. Leist had lived in Winterset for the past 16 years.

Born on March 27, 1926 in Humboldt, he was the son of Joseph Mike and Hanna Hetherington Leist. He moved from Humboldt to Winterset 16 years ago and was a caretaker of bee hives for Henry Hansen. Mr. Leist was a member of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are six brothers, Tom of Rockwell City, John of Chester, Carl of Dakota City, George of Hayfield, Minn. Joseph of LeRoy, Minn., and Ralph of Madrid; and four sisters, Mary Gabrielson of Winterset, Barbara Hanna of Gladbrook, Kathryn Flemming of Fort Dodge and Anna E. Anderson of Dakota City. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Viola and Mildred.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 1, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father John Cunningham officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery. A rosary was held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 31, at Collins Funeral Home.
