Doctor White had married the former Alma Robbins of Winterset. He came here often to visit relatives and supervise his farming operations near Winterset. He was well acquainted in this community and had many friends here.

Doctor White was a native of Red Oak, where he was born in 1884. Following the death of his father in 1892, he moved to Indianola, where he attended Simpson college. During his college days he was an outstanding athlete. In high school, he was an all-state football quarterback, and at the University of Chicago played football under the famous coach, Alonzo Stagg. He held Iowa State records in the 100-yard and 220-yard dashes in track event.

As a coach at Grand Rapids, Mich., his high school football team won the state championship.

He was a fellow of the American college of Surgeons, the American Medical association, past president of the Scott County Medical association, the Radiological society of North America, president of the staffs at Mercy and St. Luke's hospitals in Davenport, for many years was chairman of the Tri-City Chicago alumni association, member of the national advisory council of Stephens college at Columbia, Mo., past president of the Davenport Kiwanis, and member of the Chamber of Commerce, Y.M.C.A., Historical society and Davenport Country club.
