MRS. W. S. SIMPSON DIES

Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Stanley W. Simpson of Independence, Mo. She will be remembered here as the former Gertrude Garlinger, eldest child of the late John and Ellen Garlinger. She was born here Oct. 19, 1886, and died Oct. 13 at Independence at the age of 55 years.

Her early girlhood was spent in Winterset, and she attended the local schools. She left here in 1907, with her parents, and she was married to Richard Huff. They were the parents of one daughter, Mrs. J. W. Swaney of Kansas City. In June, 1922 she was married to W. S. Simpson of Emporia, Kan., where they lived for several years before moving to Indpendence.

In addition to her husband and daughter, she leaves a granddaughter, a sister, Mrs. Maude Woods of Buckner, Mo., and a brother, Earnest Garlinger of Emporia.

Her funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Independence, Friday, Oct. 16th, and burial was made in the cemetery in that city. Mrs. Simpson and granddaughter visited friends in Winterset last July.

FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN KANSAS

Death Follows Disease Complications. Husband, Daughter Survive.

Word was received here this week of the death of Mrs. Gertrude Simpson, of Independence, Missouri, October 13, former resident of Winterset. She was 56 years of age and death was caused by complications of diseases.

Funeral services were conducted at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic church Tuesday morning, October 16, and burial was made in the St. Mary’s cemetery at Independence.

Mrs. Simpson was born in Winterset, October 19, 1886, the eldest child of John and Ellen Allen Garlinger. Her girlhood was spent in and near this community, where she attended the public schools. In 1907 she moved with her parents to Houston, Missouri, where she was united in marriage to Richard Huff, August 14, 1908 and they were the parents of one daughter, Mrs. J. W. Swaney of Kansas City, Missouri.

On June 4, 1922 she married W. S. Simpson of Emporia, Kansas, and they resided there for several years, later moving to Independence where they have since resided.

Besides her husband and daughter, she is survived by one grandchild, Carol Louise Swaney, one sister, Mrs. Maude Woods of Buchner, Missouri; one brother, Ernest Garlinger of Emporia, Kansas, and numerous other friends and relatives.
