Former Resident of Van Meter Succumbs at Iowa City
Ervin S. Buel of Earlham passed away Friday evening, Sept. 10th at the State hospital at Iowa City. Mr. Buel, a former Van Meter resident, had been in ill health for some time, and was taken to the hospital about two weeks ago.
He was born in Jo Davis county, Ill., on Aug. 4, 1868, being 74 years, 1 month and 6 days old at the time of his passing.
When a small boy he came with his parents, Reuben and Rachael Buel to Guthrie county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On March 4, 1893, he was united in marriage to Minnie J. Chasteen. To this union were born eight children, four of whom are living. His wife, his father and mother, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, Emory of Booneville and Glenn of Van Meter; two daughters, Mrs. Lela Stump of DeSoto and Mrs. Lena Rankin of West Des Moines; three sisters, Mrs. Della Long of Winterset, Mrs. Lena Dunn and Mrs. Tena Hooper of Earlham and four grandchildren.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the United Brethren church; conducted by the pastor, the Rev. David Thompson. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Edna Marquardt, Marceline Thompson, the Rev. David Thompson and David Thompson, Jr. with Miss Darlene Miller as pianist.
The pall bearers were Roy Woolery of DeSoto; J. F. Fritz, Boyd W. Landers, Ralph Jennings, Floyd Switzer and J. Max Gutshall.
Burial was made in the Van Meter cemetery.
