Martha Emma Gilbert, daughter of Elias and Mary Gilbert, was born June 10, 1866, in Madison county, Iowa, and departed this life after a lingering illness of two years, at her home, south of Macksburg, at the age of sixty-four years, one month and eighteen days.
On August 13, 1883, she was married to John F. Simpson. To this union were born five children. They are: Letta Mae, who preceded her mother in death in 1911; Omer Earl of Lorimor; Ona Pearl Kingery, of Buchanan, Michigan; Mrs. Lora Ritter, of Afton, and Mrs. Lura Welty of Sioux City.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, four children, twenty-two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four brothers, E. S. Gilbert and C. H. Gilbert, of Lorimor; J. T. Gilbert, of Menlo; and E. E. Gilbert, of Creston, and one sister, Mrs. Orilda Mobley, of Stuart, and a host of nieces, and nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Macksburg Methodist church, on Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Eugene Alexander in charge. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
