Dr. George W. Lee, Colorado

Dr. George W. Lee, 85, of Greeley, Colo., died June 18, 2000, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 22, at the United Methodist Church in Greeley, following by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Dr. George Lee was born April 22, 1915 to George W. and Blanche (Moreland) Lee of rural Edgeley, N.D. He married Miriam E. Schafroth on June 30, 1940 in Corning. He attended the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in visual optics and a doctor of optometry degree. He later served as an optometric officer in the Medical Service Corps during the Korean War. Dr. Lee began his practice of optometry in Winterset in 1950, moving to Greeley in 1964. His memberships included the Lions International, the United Methodist Church of Greeley, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Greeley Shrine Club. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, American Optometric Association and Scottish Rite Foundation. He also was a Boy Scott volunteer for 26 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Dr. George W. Lee III (wife Barbara) of Loveland, Colo., and John P. Lee (wife Sandra) and Mark A. Lee (wife Mary), both of Windsor; two sisters, Helen M. Amborn (husband E. Robert) of Grand Rapids, Minn., and Ruth B. Worlan (husband Carroll E.) of Des Moines; a sister-in-law, Mildred A. Lee of LaCrosse,Wis.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the George W. Lee Memorial and may be designated to either the Leukemia Foundation, Peripheral Neuropathy Research or to the Shriners Children's Hospital, in care of Miriam Lee, 1707 22nd Av., Greeley, Colo., 80631.
