Member of Pioneer Madison County Family Died in Des Moines
Funeral services for William Young, 92-year-old member of a pioneer Madison county family, were held at the Winterset cemetery Wednesday with brief rites at the grave. The rites were held in charge of the Rev. William P. Gordon, pastor of the United Presbyterian church.
Mr. Young's death occurred Sunday at the Broadlawns General hospital in Des Moines, after an illness of five weeks.
The deceased was the son of George W. and Sarah Moore Young. He was born in Belmond county, Ohio, and accompanied his parents to Madison county when they came here in 1856.
After leaving Madison county he farmed for many years in Minnesota. The past 15 years he had lived in Des Moines.
He is survived by a son, Ralph C. Young of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Youngquist of North Branch, Minn., and Mrs. Bessie Van Gerpen of Lennox, S. Dak.; 11 grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Frances Thompson of Earlham.
_________________________William C. Young, former resident of Winterset, died in Des Moines on Tuesday, June 15, at the age of 92 years. Short funeral services were held in the Winterset cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, June 16, with Rev. W. P. Gordon officiating. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
William C. Young, son of George Young and Sarah Moore Young, was born April 3, 1851 in Ohio. He came to Iowa in a covered wagon and settled in Scott township, Madison county, in the year 1856. He was married to Nancy Davis in 1878. To this union were born five children.
About 36 years ago he moved to Dakota. For the last 15 years he has made his home with his son, Ralph C. Young, in Des Moines. His wife and two children, Mrs. Nellie Cox and Earl C. Young, preceded him in death.
He is survived by three children, Mrs. Bessie Van Gerpen of Lenox, S. Dak., Mrs. Gladys Youngquist of North Branch, Minn., and Ralph C. Young of Des Moines; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Frankie Thompson of Earlham.
Relatives who attended the funeral were Mrs. Bessie Van Gerpen of Lenox, S. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. Youngquist of North Branch, Minn., Mrs. Blanche Larsen of Estelline, S. Dak., And Mr. and Mrs. Ralph C. Young of Des Moines.
