Former Winterset Resident Moved From Here in 1920
Lee R. Mattox, former Winterset resident, died March 5 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Dickson of Blair, Neb., it was announced here last week. He was 87 years of age.
Mr. Mattox was born near Cincinnatti, O., on Oct. 16, 1855. While still an infant, he was brought by his parents to Mahaska county, Iowa, where he lived until about 16 years old. He then came to Madison county, near Winterset, to live with an uncle, Wallace Mattox. Here he was married on Aug. 9, 1877, to Kate Moak. They were the parents of three children, two of whom preceded him in death.
Mr. and Mrs. Mattox lived in Winterset for many years, moving to Omaha in 1920 to be near their only daughter. Mrs. Mattox died in 1941. Last year Mr. Mattox moved with his daughter and her husband to Blair. While in Winterset he was in the dray business.
In addition to his daughter, he leaves four grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and one great (great) grandchild.
