Eli Landers was born in Indiana, April 23, 1850, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cora Cason in Des Moines, June 9, 1923, aged 73 years, 1 month and 16 days. His parents moved to Iowa when he was 6 years old and settled in Madison county. Here he has lived ever since, except for four years spent in Adair county. July 2, 1868, he was married to Sarah Jane Caskey and for over 51 years they journeyed together. She passed on to the final home on Christmas day three years ago, 1919. Since then he has lived with his children, awaiting the summons to join her in the beyond. He leaves to mourn: Lanson Landers, of Dean, Nevin Landers of Winterset, Mrs. Cora Cason of Des Moines, Mrs. Nellie Stanton of Stuart, Mrs. Carrie McGinnis of Prole, Mrs. Bertha Cummings of St. Charles and a sister, Mrs. Rebecca Irvin of Des Moines. One daughter, Mrs. Rosa Alexander, preceded both mother and father into the world beyond. There are living 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He united with the United Brethren church in Madison county soon after his marriage and never changed his church membership. He was laid to rest beside his companion in Union Chapel cemetery.
