JACK M. LANDERS DIED ON SUNDAY

Victim of Truck Accident Fails to Survive Injuries

Jack M. Landers of Des Moines, who was injured June 28th when run over by a rock truck southwest of Winterset, died Sunday, July 3, at a Des Moines hospital. He had been taken to Des Moines from Memorial hospital at Winterset for emergency surgery in an attempt to save his life.

Landers' death makes the fourth highway fatality of 1960 in Madison county. He was engaged in hauling rock for Madison county to a road job southwest of Winterset. Stepping out of his truck, he was struck by another truck which had just unloaded its cargo.

Mr. Landers was born near Van Meter, a son of Perry and Edna Haynes Landers, and had lived most of his life in Madison and Union counties, moving to Des Moines from Winterset about a year ago. he was married at Winterset on Jan. 30, 1946 to Edith Herman. He was 36 years of age at his death.

In addition to his wife; he leaves three sons, Richard Wayne, aged 13, Michael Eugene, aged 12, James Marvin, aged 10; a daughter, Linda Sue, aged 9; and four sisters, Mrs. Dale Davis of Winterset, Mrs. Raymond Wolf of Murray, Mrs. Nolan Huntsman of Afton and Mrs. Junior Dalton of Creston.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday afternoon from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. Walter Williams of Murray. Burial was to be made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
