Harold William Lander, 71, of Berwick died of a heart ailment Jan. 10, 1999 in Macon, Ga.
The body was cremated. Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 20) at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date at Berwick Cemetery.
Harold "Bill" Lander was born in Berwick and moved to Madison County as a toddler. He resided in Madison County until the approximate age of 17. While living in Madison County, he attended grade school and also attended Van Meter High School. He later lived in Des Moines and Ottumwa. He married Bonnie Bowman of Ottumwa in 1946. Bill was a World War II veteran, serving in the South Pacific with the U. S. Marine Corps. He had been a heating and air conditioning repairman and also owned L and M Auto Service until retiring in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one daughter.
He is survived by a daughter, Sheila Weber of Warner Robins, Ga.; two sons, Rick of Des Moines and Tommy of Berwick; two brothers, Russell Lander and Frankie McAlister, both of Booneville; four sisters, Ruth Young of Ventura, Calif., Mary Swanson of Dawson, Rose Turnquist of Des Moines and Beverly Downing of Melford; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
