MRS. ELLEN GILBERT Succumbs At Murray

Mrs. Ellen E. Gilbert, long time resident of the Barney community, died Dec. 7, 1946, at her home in Murray at the age of 83 years.

Mrs. Gilbert was the former Ellen E. Palmer, daughter of Charles and Hannah Palmer, and was born in Bangor, Maine, March 23,1863. When she was five years old she came wih her parents to Iowa. They settled on a farm at Barney, where her early life was spent. The remainder of her life was spent in Iowa, with the exception of a year in Kansas.

She was married March 27, 1881, to Harris W Gilbert. They were the parents of eight children. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Sylvie Fenimore of Wodward, Okla., Mrs. George Rhone of Straw, Mont., Mrs. John Ricketts of Lorimor; Mrs. Lloyd Woods of Murray, Mrs. Ernest Nichols of Peru, and Mrs. John Harper of Lorimor; two sons, Dana Gilbert of Greenfield and Charles H. Gilbert of Peru; 21 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. C. H. Whitworth of Canada.

Funeral services were held Tuesday of last week from the Barney church, in charge of the Rev. R. Underwood, pastorof the Murray Methodist church. Burial was made in the Barney cemetery.
