Mary Bell Baker, a resident of Winterset since 1969, died at Madison County Memorial Hospital here on Thursday, November 22. She was 75 years of age.
Mrs. Baker was born in Kansas on August 23, 1898, the daughter of John and Cora Warren. She was married to Ruthford Baker at Scranton, Kansas on March 17. 1917.
Mrs. Baker lived in Peru until 1960, and in Macksburg from 1960 to 1969, prior to moving to Winterset. She was affiliated with the Methodist Church at Barney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three children: Harold, Betty and Edna. Two step-children, Albert and Freddie, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Baker is survived by eight children: Leta McChesney of Norwalk, Iowa; Grace Carter of Hawthorn, Calif.; Ruth Bush of Annabell, Mo.; Elsie Allen of Winterset; Charles Baker of Ridgecrest, Calif.; Russell Baker of Peru; Wanda Coril of Marlett, Mich.; and Kathryn Patterson of Des Moines.
In addition, five step-children survive: Clarence, Floyd and Earl Baker, all of Macksburg; Hazel Knouf of Norwalk; and Florence Stifel of Selah, Wash. There are also 36 grandchildren, one brother and one sister surviving.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24 at the Peru Methodist Church, with the Rev. Hempenius of Truro officiating. Burial was in the Peru Cemetery.
