Mrs. J. E. Kordick

Anna M. Reis was born June 25, 1866 in Sublette, Lee county, Ill. In 1881, her father, George Reis moved to Adair county locating 7 miles west of Fontanelle. She was married to J. E. Kordick and lived on a farm six miles north of Bridgewater until 1899, when she moved to Bridgewater with her family, where Mr. Kordick was engaged in the general merchandise business under the firm of Kordick & Haddock.

In 1910 Mr. Kordick retired from the mercantile business and moved to a farm two miles west of Bridgewater. In 1918 he purchased a farm near Winterset, where she lived until death called her home.

She was the mother of four children; George, Leo, Albert, Agnes. George died in 1894. The other children were with her during her illness.

Mrs. Kordick took sick on April 8th. Doctors were unable to diagnose her case and on Aug. 2nd she was taken to Mercy hospital, Des Moines, to be operated upon for an obstruction of the colon. She died Aug. 3, at 4:15 a.m. before submitting to the operation.

Funeral services were held Aug. 5th at 7:30 a.m. at the Catholic church in Winterset. Mass was said by Father Plunkett. Interment was made at St. Mary's cemetery, three miles north of Bridgewater, on the Kordick family lot. The last rites of the church were given by Father O'Donnell, the parish priest of Bridgewater.
